CYA College Scholarship 2013
Application Process

CYA Basketball once again has set aside $4000 in total college scholarship monies to be awarded in the Spring of 2013 to qualified applicants for use in the scholastic year 2013—2014 as a college freshman. Individual awards ranging from $500-$1000 will be given by the basketball board of directors to up to 6 high school seniors (at least one boy and one girl) who have participated in CYA Basketball in their middle school and high school years and who meet the other stated criteria of academic achievement and good sportsmanship.

 
General guidelines for the application include:
 
  • The applicant must have submitted all requested information on time (If full package is not received, no consideration will be given). Please read all instructions carefully!
  • The applicant must display good citizenship and have an exemplary record of community service. Applicant must also have a record of good sportsmanship while participating in the CYA basketball program.
  • The applicant must attend an accredited college in the fall of the scholarship program year (2011) and plan on obtaining a four-year degree.
  • The applicant must currently have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better for all 4 0f their high school years.

The applicant must have played on either a CYA Basketball team or their high school basketball team for at least three seasons during their high school years. In addition, the applicant must have been a registered participant and participated in CYA house or travel Basketball for a minimum of two seasons during their middle and high school years (these two requirements can overlap).

The recipient of a 2013 CYA Basketball scholarship will be a person who is inspiring to his/her teammates and friends, displays good sportsmanship, and brings credit to his/her school and sport. (This scholar-athlete need not have played on their high school basketball team and need not have been a highly skilled player.)

Deadline for the completed application is May 31st (though the Board reserves the right to extend the deadline if an insufficient number of applications has been received). CYA held a Coaches clinic for all house and travel coaches (head and assistant) at Chantilly HS from 1:00-3:30 PM on Sunday November 11th. This clinic, designed and directed by TrueAP in partnership with CYA Basketball, covered the following subjects and presented drills that can be used in basketball practices:

CYA-TrueAp Spring Performance Clinics
Spring Clinics at NZone: 3/11/13 to 5/30/13

CYA Basketball together with CYA’s partner True Athlete Performance is offering Boys and Girls Clinics during the Spring season for those Basketball players who wish to improve their speed, agility, quickness, reaction time, and power. These clinics will be held 2 times per week (Monday/Wednesday for girls and Tuesday/Thursday for boys) from March 11th to May 30th. Free Saturday sessions will also be offered to participants. Participation in these speed clinics is strictly voluntary and independent of CYA’s Spring basketball program.

BOYS: The Performance Clinic for boys ages 7-10 will be held from 5:00-6:00 on Tuesdays/Thursdays. For boys ages 11-14 it will be held from 6:00-7:30 pm on Tuesdays/Thursdays. All clinics will be held held at the nZone, which is located at 14550 Lee Road in Chantilly. The cost for 12 weeknight sessions is $240 for boys ages 7-10 and $300 for boys ages 11-14; the cost for 18 sessions is $270 for boys ages 7-10 and $360 for boys ages 11-14.

GIRLS: The Performance Clinic for girls ages 7-10 will be held from 5:00-6:00 on Mondays/Wednesdays. For girls ages 11-14 it will be held from 6:00-7:30 pm on Mondays/Wednesdays. All clinics will be held held at the nZone, which is located at 14550 Lee Road in Chantilly. The cost for 12 weeknight sessions is $240 for girls ages 7-10 and $300 for girls ages 11-14; the cost for 18 sessions is $270 for girls ages 7-10 and $360 for girls ages 11-14. As an added bonus, the girls clinics will include ACL injury prevention training, as ACL injuries affect an increasing number of girls participating in basketball at all levels.
