CYA Firecats

Congratulations to the CYA Firecats. They were accepted into the USYS Region 1 Premier League for Spring 09 play. For those of you who don’t know, the USYS Region 1 Premier League consists of the top 16 teams competing throughout the mid-atlantic and northeast states. Region 1 consists of teams from Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and US Youth Soccer - Europe. The competition is designed to allow the best teams in Region 1 to play each other in a league format. Way to Go Firecats! We know that you will represent CYA well!

The GU15 CYA Firecats won the 2009 State Championship in December. The team won 5 matches over Beach FC, Richmond Strikers, Fredericksburg United, Richmond Kickers and the Herndon Hotspurs on their way to the Championship. The Firecats will represent Virginia in the Region 1 championships (Northeast USA) in July that gives them a chance to compete in the national championships in Kansas City later in July. The Firecats will play in the Northeastern Premier League in the spring.

State Selections
Congratulations to the CYA players who were selected into the State Olympic Development Program. The Olympic Development Program is a US Youth Soccer initiative to identify high caliber, elite players. Ultimately, this program will lead to increased success for the US National Teams.
We are very proud of you! Natalie, Noah, Christie, Meredith, Stefanie, Hanna, Haley, Kaylee, Danielle, and Laila all currently play CYA Travel Soccer. Both Noah and Laila began in CYA’s recreational program and then graduated to the travel program.
District Selections
Great Job to Kenneth Hippe and Katelyn Hurlock as well. Both of these players were district selections and came through the CYA recreational program.
ODSL Sportsmanship Award Winners

Congratulations to all the CYA teams that have been recognized as superior sportsmanship award winners. This award is a collective tribute to the coaches, managers, parents and players. You have represented both your team and the club well. Games were won and lost but you accepted both with dignity and grace.
