The Capital Area Wrestling League (CAWL) is a 6 to 16 year-old kids amateur wrestling league in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The CAWL consists of 20 competitive teams, 11 in VA and 9 in MD. Among other things, the League strives to prepare wrestlers for high school wrestling. Weight classes range from 50 pounds to 200 pounds with increments of 5 pounds up to 115 pounds, and 7, 8, 15, 20, and 35-pound increments after 115 pounds. There is a 200 pound limit heavyweight class. Teams wrestle dual meets throughout the season and compete in the CAWL League Championships at the end of the season. Six wrestlers at each weight class qualify to wrestle in the Virginia/Maryland States Association Championships (VA/MD States) one week following the CAWL Championships.
